The "HIV/HCV Drug Affordability Project" was launched in July 2015 by Coalition PLUS, with the support of Unitaid, and has helped to galvanize the response to hepatitis C in seven middle-income countries.
The aim: to assure that public policies are adopted to combat hepatitis C, developed alongside the affected communities, and adapted to their needs.
Results achieved:
These achievements result from six years spent in forging links, sharing expertise and experiences and implementing activities. We must now ensure they are durable.
Today, Coalition PLUS calls on the international community to take action to:
Founded in 2008, Coalition PLUS is an international union comprising over one hundred community-based associations involved in the HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis responses in 52 countries. We advocate a community-based approach to the fight against these epidemics. We therefore advocate for the systematic involvement of people infected with, affected by or particularly vulnerable to HIV and/or viral hepatitis in the decision-making processes, as well as in the development and implementation of health programs that affect them. Our association exists to pool the forces of leading associations in the fight against AIDS for a more effective response to epidemics on a national and international scale. Today, Coalition PLUS brings together 16 member organizations, which collectively set out the Union's strategic direction based on a principle of shared governance. Through our thematic, geographic and linguistic networks, we work with around one hundred civil society organizations on four continents.
Unitaid is a global health agency engaged in finding innovative solutions to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases more quickly, cheaply and effectively, in low- and middle-income countries. Our work includes funding initiatives to address major diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, as well as HIV co-infections and co-morbidities such as cervical cancer and hepatitis C, and cross-cutting areas, such as fever management. Unitaid is now applying its expertise to address challenges in advancing new therapies and diagnostics for the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a key member of the Access to COVID Tools Accelerator. Unitaid is hosted by the World Health Organization.
